We had an opportunity recently to create our first ever outdoor billboard. My son’s little league team plays in the lovingly restored Anderson Yards in South Philly. When a space opened up for a sponsor sign, I grabbed it. However, that was the easy part. Then we needed the creative for the sign.
The initial thoughts for the sign were to use a simple logo and tagline and have at it. After going through some sketches with playful images of Max Patkin and some well placed copy, I came across images of old timey pitchers with high leg kicks and baggy unis. I wanted to keep it to a single word so we could go as big as possible with the type and integrate the image of the player. When I came upon this great image of Bob Feller, everything came together with just a few moves.
I have some images here of the original photo, and the billboard in place.
